International Business Etiquette: Part 2 [Infographic]

We recently published a guide on international business etiquette, which you can see here.

After previously covering the countries of South Africa, Argentina, China, France, Germany, the UK and Italy, we decided to extend things even further. Now you have the chance to ensure you understand the local etiquette in a range of other countries – ensuring you’re always most likely to close crucial business deals – which you can see in the infographic below:

What offends someone in one country may be a compliment in another, so ensuring that you’re up to scratch on your local knowledge is an essential for any business meeting.

Things that you need to consider include:

  • What should I wear?
  • How should I greet someone when I meet them?
  • What topics of conversation would be appropriate in this country?
  • What gestures are viewed as polite/rude in this country?

These are just a few of the main points, but there are a lot of other things that need to be addressed before ensuring that you’re on the right tracks.

Is it just unfortunate if you end up offending someone unintentionally in a foreign country? Many would put it down to a lack of respect for failing to learn about the local culture and customs. After all, you wouldn’t expect someone from a foreign country to come to the UK and offend you; even if it was accidental.

It’s important to remember that, more often than not, you’ll be representing not just yourself but your business and your colleagues too.
